Message from the founder

I'm Shawn Collins, founder of LandOpps and a data engineer by trade. I lead the team behind the platform's search infrastructure, working with environmental consultants to solve real-world problems.

Outside of work, I'm happiest in the mountains - the photo is from Nepal's Manaslu Circuit (2024).

Why we started this

Underused, environmentally impacted land is one of California's biggest hidden opportunities - and a real cost to the communities living near it.

Accelerating Reuse: Sites sit idle for decades because clearance data is buried in regulatory documents. We make it searchable.

Protecting Open Space: Every brownfield left unused pushes development onto undeveloped land. We make infill easier to vet.

Community Safety: The faster an expert finds a remediation report or closure letter, the faster a community benefits.

Over the past decade the scientific community has developed a far deeper knowledge of how to assess degrees of contamination - state and federal laws are changing to reflect this new understanding. LandOpps helps in this discovery process.

We are a search and research tool. Not a marketplace, broker, legal service, or environmental consultancy. Always verify findings through official state sources.
